Automatic Sprays

Here are the answers to some of your most common questions about our Automatic Sprays products.

How to use Air Wick® Automatic Sprays?

Air Wick® Automatic Air Fresheners can neutralise odours and fragrance your home through the air freshener dispenser, providing up to 70 days of continuous fragrance.

Make sure the Freshmatic® unit is facing away from your face at all times, and switch the unit to “off” before following these steps:

  1. To open your Air Wick® Air Freshener, depress the button on the top and then pull the front cover forward.
  2. Then, open your Air Wick® refill by taking off its lid and inserting the refill can (with the nozzle facing toward the front of the gadget).
  3. When the gadget is closed, you should see the black nozzle orifice through the hole the spray comes through.
  4. Close the unit, point away from your face and select the level of fragrance you would like.
  5. The first spray will come after 15 seconds.

How Do Automatic Air Fresheners Work

Automatic air fresheners do the same as an air freshener does – but rather than you having to push a button or a trigger – they release the scent routinely at a set time or under set conditions. Air Wick®’s Automatic Spray is battery operated, so once it’s set to “on”, it will neutralise odours and refresh your home automatically by spraying at regular intervals.

What is included in the Air Wick® Freshmatic® Max Starter Kits?

The starter kit includes the Air Wick® Freshmatic® Max battery air freshener, an aerosol refill, and one AA/LR6 battery together with instructions.

What are the benefits of Air Wick® Freshmatic® Automatic Spray?

Air Wick® Freshmatic® is a battery-operated air freshener which automatically gives consistent bursts of fragrance throughout the day, so that you have the reassurance of your home always smelling great. And, because each spray is a controlled dose, you can be rest assured you’re getting the same amount of fragrance from the beginning of the refill right through to the end.

What should I do if there is a red arm mechanism stopping me from inserting my fragrance refill?

In order to reposition the red arm mechanism and insert your fragrance refill, turn the device off. Next, raise the red arm up to its fullest extent by rotating it clockwise. You will now be able to insert your fragrance refill and start your device.

What is the proper way to insert the refill?

Keeping the unit directed away from your face at all times, switch the unit to "off" before attempting to insert the refill. To open the gadget, depress the button on the top and pull the front cover forward. Insert the refill can. The nozzle should be facing toward the front of the gadget. When the gadget is closed you should see the black nozzle orifice through the hole where the spray comes through the gadget. Close the unit, point away from your face and then select the desired level of fragrance. The 1st spray will come after a 15-second delay.

Can you adjust the fragrance level?

Air Wick® Freshmatic® products have three interval settings, allowing you to control how often your Freshmatic® sprays. As well, there are some other settings such as the flowers above the switch which allow you to control the intensity of your fragrance:

Where should you put the device?

The Air Wick® Freshmatic® products can be hung on the wall. Alternatively, they can simply be placed on a shelf or cupboard. However, it should always be placed at a height of at least 6 feet above the floor level and please always read the instructions before use.

How do I shut it off?

Turn your device off by the left switch position. If the unit is not going to be in use for long periods of time, we would recommend that you remove the refill and/or battery.

How do you know when the battery has run out?

Your device will stop spraying if the battery runs out. If you suspect that it has, turn the device off and then on again – if it still does not spray after 15 seconds, you’ll need to replace the battery.

What is the best battery to use in my device?

You should replace the battery with a new, good quality, alkaline battery. We do no recommend that you use a zinc-carbon battery or a re-chargeable one as these may not have enough power to operate your device for long periods of time.

Your battery should generally last three refills, but if the device stops spraying then its likely it has run out.

Why does my Air Wick® flash red?

If your Air Wick® has a flashing red light, it usually means one of two things:

  1. Battery is low
  2. Your product is empty

If you have recently replaced the battery however and your product is not empty, you can call our Consumer Relations team on 0845 769 7079 and someone will assist you further.

How to fix Air Wick® Automatic Spray?

Air Wick® Automatic Spray will neutralise odours and fragrances in your home for up to 70 days (when used at minimum setting). It’s a battery-operated air freshener, automatically delivering consistent bursts of beautiful fragrance throughout the day. If your Freshmatic® is not spraying any fragrance however, here’s what to do:

  1. Turn off your device:
You should always turn off your device before running these checks.
  2. Check the nozzle is in the correct direction:
When the device is closed, you should see the black nozzle tip of the fragrance refill can through the opening at the front of the unit (if you cannot, you may have placed the refill can into the device with the black nozzle facing backwards).
  3. Check the red arm is fully raised:
If the red arm mechanism is not fully raised, you may be unable to fully insert the refill or close the front cover of the device. This is located in the opening where the nozzle of the can should be resting – if the red arm is blocking the opening, raise it up to its fullest extent by rotating the arm clockwise and pushing the refill as far into the device as it will go.

The lights on my new device are not flashing. Is the device broken?

Your device is not broken. Our latest versions of the device no longer have a flashing green light, which helps to save power and make the battery last longer.
